The Health Benefits of Ginger

... from sickness to pain management.

When the stomach bug hit our house hard I found myself purchasing a large amount of gingerale. I got to thinking about the ginger ingredient, and wondering what other benefits it may have for our bodies. Here is what I found out.

1. Nausea and Vomiting: Ginger truly does aid in suppressing nausea and vomiting as I stated above. This I can attest to first hand. One thing I learned, however, was that you must choose a gingerale that actually has ginger in it. Surprisingly, many carry the name gingerale, but don’t actually have a drop of ginger in them.

2. Seasickness: I wasn’t sure how my kids were going to do on our first cruise, so I brought along a bottle of ginger. I actually heard somewhere that ginger works better than any patch or seasickness pill. The girls each took a ginger capsule before boarding the boat and never had any issues with seasickness.

3. Muscles: According to the Huffington Post, ginger soothes sore muscles and stops muscle cramping. I wish I had known this before so that I could take it after each workout routine.

4. Arthritis: Believe it or not, ginger has anti-inflammatory properties which means relief for those who suffer from arthritis. Whole Foods says that ginger was proven in a study to not only reduce the inflammation, but the pain as well. I’m guessing this is why it works so well to relieve muscles soreness.

5. Sweating: Apparently, ginger helps your body to produce sweat. Sweat is your body’s way of detoxifying itself. A good sweat during a cold, flu, or other illness may help you recover much faster.

Fortunately, ginger can be purchased at any grocery store and added to plenty of meals. It can also be found in capsule form if you don’t like the way it makes your food taste.
